[edit] Leukemia

Leukemia is a form of blood cancer that affects the white blood cell line. Here is a distribution table that brings you to the various chapters where more details about specific leukemia types can be found. The leukemias in children are different from the leukemias in adults, this is why they are dealt with separately. Then there are lymphomas that have a different growth pattern and are divided into Hodgkin's and Non-Hodgkin's lymphomas.

You can see from the complexity of the topic that any patient who may have some form of leukemia needs a referral to one of the specialists in this field, such as a hematologist or oncologist. As is mentioned in the various detailed chapters, a careful work-up with bone needle aspirate and possibly a bone biopsy and other tests need to be done. In addition the exact stage of the disease needs to be determined before the appropriate treatment can be given.
